Vigil to be held after Winnipeg’s latest murder
Winnipeg police have charged two people after a violent assault killed a 39-year-old mother.
Police say that Kashtin Flett and Nikina Houle, both 23, face charges in the alleged murder of Mavis Ducharme.
Police say two suspects went to a residence in the 500 block of Stella Avenue and forced their way in. Ducharme, and an adult male were both assaulted. Ducharme managed to escape and fled to a nearby residence, but she was again assaulted.
Police responded to a call about the assault in progress around 5 a.m. Saturday. They found Ducharme suffering serious injuries and paramedics rushed her to hospital, where she later died.
Flett, has been charged with second-degree murder and breaking and entering to commit assault. Houle, has been charged with manslaughter and breaking and entering to commit assault.
Both suspects have been detained in custody.
According to Facebook a vigil for Mavis Ducharme will be held Tuesday in the 500 block of Stella Ave, at 7pm.
Family and friends took to the social media site, mourning Ducharme’s death.
A Facebook group called in loving memory Mavis & savanna ducharme has also been made.

as a member of a First Nation…difficulty understanding why do we do the things to ourselves…federal & provincial gov’ts enjoy how we attack our own people…the police don’t care…just another murder…need to get to our nationhood develop programs from our community and not from a foreign ideology…it will never work…just like the african american experience in the states…tribal members wake up and do something…don’t wait for someone else to do the work
