There are 5.1 million American Indians and Alaska Natives in the U.S. as of 2011, significantly fewer than the country’s 45 million black Americans (as of 2013). But like black Americans, indigenous people are killed by law enforcement officers at rates that far outstrip their share of the population.
While #BlackLivesMatter evolved into a national rallying cry for racial justice over the summer, a largely overlooked #NativeLivesMatter movement has been quietly galvanizing activists as well. Few mainstream outlets report on it, but the indigenous blogosphere and Twitterverse abound with horror stories, not the least of which is that six Native men and women were killed by police in November and December alone.

Amerika has no more use for us so we gotta go. Black people and Natives people need to come together if for nothing else for our children. I fell in love with Native culture and the southwest while station in New Mexico. Such a beautiful land and people and we have so much in common, but the lack of understanding and communication has us missing each other.

I want it known that American Indians are killing themselves and allowing other Indians to do it all in the name of money, and fear to stand up. Punishment is getting fired for reporting or disclosing. I am an enrolled American Indian and know first hand.

My Northern Kingdom Brothers and Sisters has been overcome by the wicked starting back with the United States Cavalry. They continue to shoot our people down at alarming rates and don’t hold themselves guilty. Hab 1:4 Therefore the law(of the land) is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.
Gad(Native Americans) will overcome in the end. Our savior will redeem us.

I knew cops were killing Natives, but I didn’t know it was frequent.
Personally, I think those among the black community who souls are leaning towards change, and those in the native community who souls are leaning towards change, need to band together and seek justice and equity politically, economically, and socially.

Wow!
I’m part Native American, but it’s funny that Black ppl are often discouraged to claim that part of their ancestry, even when it is true.
I honestly believe that Blacks and Natives should team back up together…like we did in historical times…just not as slaves…please not that again, lord. But in history, some natives took on the disguise as slave owners to help the black ppl get out of slavery. Thus all us “Black folks” being mixed with Native American blood. Well not all…but a lot of us are.
But we’re the most disrespected ethnic groups in America. I don’t see why we can’t just come together?
Natives were here first. Blacks helped big time in building this country…but we get thrown around like lost sheep and feral cats. 😦
And I’m of both ethnicities. Hmmm…
But those are just my thoughts.

I’m African-American. My great grand mother was either full Cherokee, or Cherokee-Irish (I actually have the old photos and portraits). Regardless, this issue is being addressed by a number of your Black brothers and sisters. YOUR plight, sacrifice and investment of split blood for is what is known as , ‘The United States of America’ has never gone unrecognized by the majority of us! I WILL pass this info on, as I’ve been doing all along. Keep the faith.

The police are out of control. They need to be held to a higher standard, and stop killing Natives and African Americans.

This is the first I am hearing of this. This is awful and needs to be made known to the public. It’s not just a black thing… it’s a minority thing.

One thing I have to say is if they kill just because they can get away with it. As they call them self brother hood and they are a legal gang. And they are going to far with killing minority people and getting away with it. But they have to answer to a mighty Creator God. I pray that our Father God punish them and they will live with that till thry die. It is just heart braking to think the one’s that you are suppose to trust and call on for help are just the same as the next gangbanger that kills and steals but wears street clothing. One of them was my cousin that the officer killed in front of his children. He will never live in peace with him self.

I feel for my indigenous brothers and sisters, but there are some hurdles that must be crossed. Your numbers are small and this is why the media can overlook you. Second, you must reach out to your Black brothers who would fight alongside you like the kin that you are, I have personally attempted to reach out, but seen my people love both of our oppressors more than me, We have that problem within our own communities as well, but we actually SEE each other daily. Instead of being angry that the Blacklivesmatter movement is getting more press, come out and become partners with us in fighting tyranny in ALL of its forms. May peace be upon you family.

I hate to say this. As American Indian, I say nothing but words.. Same with blacks. Why? They don’t stand together. Cops are not the only persons killing American Indians. It’s own people. The mighty green dollar makes them look the other way. No American Indian wants to know the truth, blaming is so much easier!!
